More than
a colour.
Cerakote is a thin-film ceramic coating applied to a prepared surface to combine colour with functional protection. Formulated for demanding components, different Cerakote systems offer resistance to corrosion, wear, chemicals and heat.
For motorcycle and automotive parts, that means a finish chosen around how the component works as well as how it looks. Engine covers, brackets, yokes and restoration details can retain their definition while gaining a durable protective finish.
At Northern Coatworks, preparation is part of the finish. Cleaning and degreasing, abrasive preparation, gas-out where required and precise masking all come before coating. We select the series and curing process around the material, operating conditions and finish you want.
Fine detail.
Lasting protection.
Cerakote is a compelling alternative to powder coating when coating build, fine detail and operating conditions matter. Its thin application helps preserve casting texture, engraved markings and crisp edges. Critical fits, threads and mating faces still need careful assessment and masking.
For working components, the attraction goes beyond appearance: the appropriate Cerakote system can combine wear and chemical resistance with corrosion protection. Specialist high-temperature formulations also make it an option for exhausts and downpipes, where ordinary decorative powder coatings are unsuitable.
Powder coating remains a useful choice for many frames and larger components. We recommend the finish around the part, its environment and the required look. Cerakote’s advantage is particularly clear when a refined, low-build finish or a specialist thermal coating is the priority.

Built for
the heat.
From piston crowns and exhaust collets to downpipes, manifolds and complete exhaust systems, we apply specialist ceramic coatings for components working under intense heat. Our coatings have been tested on track through our work with Bahder Performance & Machine, where sustained load and repeated heat cycles put the finish to work.
Heat management starts with the right coating in the right place. Dedicated piston-crown thermal barriers help limit heat transfer into the piston. High-temperature exhaust coatings protect the finish through demanding heat cycles, while specialist heat-dissipating formulations are designed to move heat away from suitable cooling components.
It is a considered approach to thermal protection and cooling for engines that work hard. We match the coating to the component, the engine specification and the way it is used, supporting the demands of sustained performance.
